Frequently Asked Questions
Does iPhone still use HEIC in iOS 18?
Yes. iOS 18 still defaults to HEIC for camera photos. To switch future photos to JPG: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. This only affects new photos going forward — existing HEIC files still need to be converted.
Can I use the Files app to convert HEIC on iPhone?
No — this method no longer works in iOS 17/18. The most reliable options are: (1) use this online converter, or (2) transfer photos to a PC with Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic, which converts to JPG automatically.
